Decisions, Decisions….

30 Jun

I am struggling. I cannot find the bathing suit of my dreams :( I’m not asking for much! Really!

The Requirements:

  1. Must have a “retro” 1950′s look – I’ve tried all the floral patterns and weird cuts (monokinis, etcetera, etcetera), this best suits my personality.
  2. Must have underwire – I’m an adult with adult-sized boobs. The jig is up, no more built-in shelf-bras for me!
  3. I’d prefer a one-piece. I have about 4 bathing suits I don’t really love (a bikini and 3 tankinis). I want to do this right this year and not have any regrets!

The Choices:

I’ve at least managed to narrow down my swimsuit choices to the following. But between these three, I don’t know which to choose! I’ve reached out to my friends and even co-workers, but I still cannot make a solid decision. SMH! Any thoughts?

*The first two swimsuits are courtesy of J.Crew, while the last is from Victoria’s Secret.

I found another leopard lover!! Yes! Ms. Twirly Skirts has shown me how to wear my classics with my “crazy pieces” as friends call them, in a brand new light.

Not only is the blog about my favorite things (looking fabulous and feeling beautiful), the author has a style that translates from work to play and all the other instances in between. And did I mention she loves leopard as much as I do? To read find her post on her fly new leopard shoes, click here!  Happy reading!!

Leopard Obsession

28 Jun

I have a problem… I’m addicted to animal prints! I always thought I was going to be one of those old ladies dripping in furs, diamonds, zebra and leopard prints and it looks like my vision will come true. But for now, I’m trying to play it safe and stick with small pieces, like my nails!

Because I’m no pro with nail designs, I’ve enlisted the help of Sally Hanson’s Salon Effects (see image above), courtesy of my neighborhood Rite Aid. Naturally, of all the designs offered, my eye immediately went for the leopard. I decided to only do one nail per hand, so I don’t scare off people in the office… and because my nails are somewhat shorter, I added a pop of color too! Check it out!

Style at the Playground

24 Jun

If you can’t tell already… I’m not like the other parents on the playground. I come straight from work, usually with my heels digging into the wood chips and my Supermom shirt tucked into my pencil skirt (just kidding, I usually wear that UNDER my button-down).

For those of you that give me the side-eye, sorry, I’m a working mom…and I’ll be damned if I let getting home late affect my baby’s play-date.

The problem with this is I can’t play “free the princess” (also known as tag in my daughter’s lingo) while I’m rocking my 3-4 inchers. I could easily run home and get changed, but that takes about 45 minutes off of playtime that will be a disaster in my kid’s eyes. What’s a (stylish-young and oh-so-amazingly cool)  mom to do? If you know me… you already know I’m all about the fashion inspiration!

Here are a few sample ensembles I spied other like-minded-mamas rockin by the swings (courtesy of Polyvore for the mock-ups)!

I’m guessing the key is: If you’re going to wear heels, be sure to rock the lower heights or a wedge. This is a learning curve for me too! As always, please feel free to leave your suggestions :)

Like everyone, I have a difficult time putting together work ensembles from my own closet. We operate on business casual, which for some means jeans and heels, for me means “no suits.” Even today, I walked out in a floral dress perfectly fit for the office… only to find when I got here that it’s wayyyy too short when I sit. Smh.

When my fashion-brain-fart happens, I usually consult with the blog world. Today’s shoutout goes to Cincinnati blogger Kasmira Kit:

What I Wore 2Day

Kasmira’s blog has gotten me through many fashion dilemmas, most notably her post on what to wear with yellow shoes (click here to check it out… just like her, I fell in love with yellow pumps only to find I have nothing yellow in my wardrobe). I also love how she recycles clothes from thrifting to simply re-styling things in a different way. Sounds like money savings to me. Check her out!

Summer-summer-summer time!

17 Jun

As we approach Summer Solstice and the heat is kicking in, I think it’s time we share the Top 3 List of Things It’s Too Damn Hot to Wear (yes, this is about to be copy written). Be warned, if you’re offended by this list, you probably joined in on the malarkey at some point. Shame. On. You.

1. Tights.

This should just be common sense. I mean really, it’s only the beginning of June and temperatures here in Philly have reached 95+ degrees. Yes, tights are versatile and can help you feel more comfortable in itty-bitty-dresses, but how comfortable are you really going to be with a yeast infection. (Sorry folks, I’m being real). Just try to avoid it. Sorry, I have no suggestions here.

2. All black everything

It’s okay ladies, I get it. Black is slimming and universal. Hell I’d wear it all year round if I could too! But this time of year, you need to either wear material that’s lighter or toss in other colors to lighten up the look. For this, I DO have a few tips:

  • Pick light airy fabrics—voile, eyelet lace, chiffon. It’s soft and that slight summer breeze through this will make you feel ultra sexy.
  • All black tends to look tough. To soften up the look, throw in some rich-looking accessories made of natural material, like raffia, wood and maybe even feathers! Have fun with it.
  • Everyone adds in color, try a pop of graphics instead. Use patterns in black, white and tan. It’s a rich look that’s oh so inviting.

3. Sweats (or anything sweat-like)

Unless you’re at the gym (or pretending to exercise – I see you boo!) there is really no need to wear sweats….ever. As a matter of fact, I think wearing sweat-clothes outside of the gym is akin to telling the world you just gave up. But if you are into exercising, don’t just grab your funky ole college sweats and whatever tee-shirt smells clean! Hit up a mall or a Sports Authority and pick up something that’s well put together. And since I’m picky, I suggest Under Armour because of the fabric. And if you’re already in shape POW! This looks amazing.

Obviously, there’s so much more that can be added to this list, so please feel free to add via comments. I love to hear what you think.
